Is Your Credit Card Information at Risk with Small Business and Retailers
Business January 25th, 2008Do you think that when you get your credit card swapped through a credit card machine in a local retailer store makes your credit card information secure and out of the reach of those people who are always there to perform a credit card fraud? Many people have become a victim of credit card fraud, as my friend did when he received a $ 2000 of one month bill from visa with all the money transactions made through his credit card.
Most of the industry experts say that the small business owners do not take the required steps to ensure security of credit card or debit card purchases made by any one at their store. Many of the retailers or small business owners are failing to look after their networks via means of firewalls so that they cannot be attacked by Trojans or malicious code that gets installed in their system. Most of the credit card information is also stolen at credit card terminal, where swapping of credit card takes place, or through the signals when a transaction takes place through a wireless credit card machine.
At the end of last year Visa USA has started a campaign to ensure that all credit cards processing takes place is secure and no information is given to any one in any case. Every retailer can get a free credit card machine from any bank to increase their revenue. In order to make this method of payment secure, retailers should be educated and should ensure they make the information private.
