Advertising careers attract those with imaginations intact from childhood. The ability to dream up playful ways to get the attention of a prospective customer is so valuable.

Those desiring a career in advertising will fall into 4 main categories; creative (writers and artists), research (following/anticipating trends), media (specialists in areas of internet, print, etc.) and account services (the facilitators who keep everything on track).

Advertising careers are not high paying by the standards set in other businesses. For most of the 250,000 positions currently in advertising, the average pay is less than $600.00 per week.  There is room for growth (estimated at 30%) in this industry however, as we swing into a global economy. The numbers employed also remain stable. Competition for advertising careers employment remains fierce with only the most energetic, focused individuals being hired.

There are several places to look for work in advertising. Obviously the large agencies come to mind first, but many of the very large corporations also have their own advertising departments. Among those are large TV and radio chains. Another large employment opportunity for advertising careers is the huge internet entities, such as Google and eBay. Good writers and artists will find their services in high demand. Career opportunities in advertising still exist at the local level, with hometown newspapers. At this level a person could find themselves being a one person advertising department, doing all artwork, selling, set up, etc. That would be a fine way to hone skills while working close to home.
